Sailing Instruction

Intro To Sailing                                       
Start Here! No experience on the water? We will build your confidence as you learn the basics of sailing and water safety.  This two-day course is offered on weekends throughout the season.

Basic Keelboat Sailing (ASA101)                    
This two-day program prepares the sailor to sail a boat about 20 feet in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision.  Text: Sailing Fundamentals

Basic Coastal Cruising  (ASA103)                           


Prerequisites: Basic Keelboat Sailing Certification
Learn to cruise safely in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat of about 20 to 30 feet in length, in moderate winds and sea conditions.  2 day course, taught on weekends. Text: Sailing Fundamentals 

Bareboat Chartering and Cruising (103-104)    
Prerequisites: Basic Keelboat Sailing Certification.
An advanced cruising Standard . The individual can act as skipper or crew of a 30-50 foot boat sailing by day in coastal waters. The standard includes knowledge of systems and maintenance procedures. Five-day live aboard course, Monday evening through Friday. Text: Cruising Fundamentals

Cruising Catamaran Chartering (104, 114)       TBA
Prerequisites: ASA101 Basic Keelboat and ASA103 Coastal Cruising
For experienced sailors who have already taken American Sailing Association courses 101 and 103. This course expands on prior sailing skills teaching an individual to safely skipper a catamaran of 30’ – 50’ in length, by day in coastal waters. This four-day course covers cruise planning, living aboard, identifying and dealing with various weather conditions, boat systems, maintenance, troubleshooting, docking, anchoring, and more. With experience, this course qualifies an individual to bareboat a charter yacht, with restrictions on area and night sailing. Text: Cruising Fundamentals and Multihull Fundamentals .
